Bernie Catterall - Animal Photographer

This site is a browsing facility for a selection of my animal photography work. Enjoy - and please contact me directly (use the tab above) with any thoughts or comments. There are four main albums: Tigers - my primary passion; Birds; Others animals; and pics from a great trip to Amakhala Game Reserve in South Africa. Just click on any of the tabs, then on any photo and scroll as you wish. My photo book 'A Tiger Journey' is also advertised - available for purchase from berniecatterall.com

Tigers
I've been lucky enough to have travelled all over the world and photographing Tigers on the way became an obsession. The Tigers here are from the fabulous Bandhavgarh and Kanha reserves in India, and from Wildlife Parks and Zoos across Europe, the US and the Far East
Birds
I never thought of myself as a bird photographer until I noticed that an ever increasing number of my shots were indeed of birds. Then I started to take a more active interest and now I'm hooked - winning the BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquaria) bird photography competition in 2025 with that first shot below of an upside down penguin reflection.
Other animals
The sheer diversity of life-forms out there is astonishing - and trying to capture the essence of each creature in a single shot remains a constant, beautiful challenge.
Amakhala Game Reserve - South Africa
Its amazing how lucky you can get if you just keep trying. As a result of all the different photography stuff I've been involved with in the last few years, and with a good slice of that luck, I got invited to visit Amakhala Game Reserve in South Africa to take a set of shots for use by a Hotel chain who own two of the Lodges there - Hlosi and Bukhela. These additional pics showcase a fabulous place where animals roam free over a vast area. Well worth a visit.
A Tiger Journey
The 2nd Edition of my book 'A Tiger Journey' is now available. Yay! For more information and maybe even to buy posted copies of the book go to berniecatterall.com (it can also be bought direct from the retail outlets at Blair Drummond Safari Park)
